June 2014 Favorites

June 2014 Favorites

After a month of blogging, I've paid special attention to the things I've liked in order to bring you this post all about my June 2014 favorites. Now June is over, I’ve liked way too many things, so I'm bringing you a carefully curated list of my 12 favs. Enjoy and I hope you discover something new!

  1. Babyfoot Exfoliating Peel: I’ve heard about this foot peel for a couple of years now and I just used it for the third time. Babyfoot plastic booties filled with some sort of special fruit acid gel that is supposed to sink into your feet and get rid of all your dry skin. The first time I used it I saw a little bit of peeling and wasn’t too impressed. I gave in another try and left it on for longer and my skin peeled like CRAZY. I tried it again this past week and same amazing results. You just need to leave it on for long enough. I won’t be sharing the pictures because who wants to look at feet even when they are smooth and soft. But I do really recommend trying it yourself. You can find it on Amazon for about $20 and I think it’s worth it.

2. Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide On Eye liner in Black Velvet: I got this with my Naked Palette awhile back and never really used it much. I tend to used gel or liquid liner instead of pencil and when I do use a pencil I had been using a Stila one. Recently I’ve been tightlining my waterline and the Stila pencil has been irritating my eyes to the point that they will water and stream all night long. I decided to see Urban Decay one would fare better and so far it’s been spot on! I really like the consistency (smooth and soft) and it lasts as long as I’d expect it to. I do get a little bit Panda eyed, but I blame myself since I usual rub my eyes. Boo me! $20.00 on Sephora.com

3. L’Oreal Sleek It Strand Smoother Serum Spray: You spray this stuff on and immediately you have smoother and shinier hair. And that lasts. Nuff said. $4.99 on Ulta.com

4. Tonal Manicures: What I mean by this is having similar but not the same shades of nail polish on the fingers of one hand. The picture illustrates it better than I can say it. So look at that. I know I did come up with this idea, but I haven’t really seen it around. I’m not sure why I haven’t because I do love it. Mostly because I can never decide which color to wear on my fingers and this gives me the chance to use loads.

5. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream: I’m always trying to figure out the hype behind BB Creams, but have never found one that looks even ok on my skin, matches my coloring or does ANY of the things that they claim. I picked this one up on a whim and really didn’t like it at first because it once again did nothing. I gave it another shot, because I brought it with me to my parents’ house for some strange reason. And now I like it a whole lot more. It goes on better with a brush (I used the RT buffing brush) and over a little bit of primer (Benefit’s The Porefessional, natch). It is a light, quick foundation for those days when I just want to look a little bit more put together and less red. I still don’t agree with the claims of perfecting, priming, moisturizing, etc. but it’s good and cheap for what I’m using it for. $7.59 at Target.

6. Vlogging in June – Essiebutton and Zoella: I’m a sucker for daily vlogging and no one I talk to understands why. Maybe I like to see how other people live their lives or get inspired by people who are doing what they love to figure out what I love to do or maybe even feel like through vlogs I have friends that someday I might actually meet and have as real friends. Whatever the draw, it makes me happy to watch them. This month two of my favs, Essiebutton and Zoella had vlogging challenges and I got some delightful videos.

7. Watermelon Ice Cubes: I’m trying to stay hydrated and can get slightly bored of regular water, so I like to change things up. I froze a bunch of watermelon and used the cubes instead of ice cubes. Can I just say DELICIOUS?? Add a bit of lime and it is perfection.

8. Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze: It’s been on my list for awhile and I finally got around to trying it. I mostly like it because it lasts FOREVER. Good stuff! $6.99 in Ulta.com

9. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Serum: I got this several months ago and didn’t see much of a difference. But I recently stopped using it for a few days and suddenly my skin started flaring up. I started using it again and I saw a marked improvement and realized that my skin was also a bit brighter and definitely more moisturized and less flakey. It is rather expensive, but you only need to use it very, very sparingly. I use about 4 or 5 drops every night after I clean my face, but before I moisturize and I've barely dented the bottle. It also comes with a great eyedropper making it very easy to use. $46.00 on Kiehls.com

10. Ikea ETTY Dish Towel: Cutest cupcake tea towels ever. Now I just need the kitchen to go with it.

11. Rivers of London Series by Ben Aaronovitch: Very enjoyable series about supernatural police work in London. Picked up the first one because, well LONDON. Picked up the second one because I liked the characters and want to see what happens next. Got the third one because I'm kind of addicted. I particularly like that the magical universe of the novels is evolving and unfolding slowly and there are all these tantalizing mysteries that are teasing me and keeping me hooked. I also like that the main character is just a little bit of nerd and that the author apparently wrote some episodes of Doctor Who. The first novel is called Rivers of London in the UK, but Midnight Riot here in the US. Rivers of London is such a better name. $7.99

12. Blogging: I'm really glad I started this blog as it's given me something really fun to do during this weird lull in my life. I'm going through a lot of changes as I try to find a new job, probably move to a new city and decide which post-graduate school path I am taking. Blogging has reignited my love for social media and made me consider how I can make it a bigger part of my future. It's an exciting place to be in one's life. Massively scary and unnerving, true, but that's all part of the adventure. But yeah blogging. It's been super cool.

Check out these and some of my other favorite at Luvocracy.

ENJOY!
