The Five on Fridays: Week 1

The Five on Fridays: Week 1

Hiya folks! I've decided to do something a little bit new on this blog. I've been trying to figure out the best way to share some of the stuff I really love. Favorites videos, The Download, The Summer Movie Project, it's all been an attempt at that. None of it has really worked, seemed sustainable. So I'm trying something new. But this time I think it will stick! It's called THE FIVE on FRIDAYS and it will be a blog post (maybe an eventual video if the format works out) where I talk about five things I liked in the past week. It could be a YouTube video or a YouTuber, something from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu or some other streaming service, a book, game, product, website, or some random thing that I've found. With that introduction out of the way let's get on with The Five.

The Five this week is all about things that I watched and liked.

1. Becoming Miranda by Tyler Oakley (feat. Bethany Mota). I watch a whole lot of YouTube videos about all kind of things. Informative, inspiring, and in this case very fun. I most definitely LOL'd for serious, something that I don't often do. Why you ask? Miranda Sings is a naturally funny character. Tyler Oakley is genuinely funny as well. So Tyler Oakley pretending to be Miranda Sings is very, very funny. Bethany Mota is not someone I think of as exceptionally funny, but she was in this video, so extra added funny. It was all in the voice. "Hello Big Boy!"

2. GRAND TETON 360 ADVENTURE by Fun For Louis. OMIGOD. These type of videos are just made of magic. Magic, I say. Folks set up a camera that is able to take videos of everything around it. Up-down-left-right-diagonal-over there. EVERYTHING. When these videos are uploaded to YouTube and watched on a mobile device with an accelerometer, the viewer can change the perspective of the video just by moving around. It's like you are a person standing where the camera is and you're just looking around. THIS IS MAGIC. THIS IS THE FUTURE. I learned about this amazing type of video from the Fun for Louis channel, where Louis Cole travels the world and films it beautifully. This is his 360 video of the Grand Tetons. Beautiful.

3. Epic California Road Trip Trailer! by Steve Booker. Steve Booker is a good friend of Louis Cole and likes to travel just as much. He has a slightly more Pinterest-y or Instagram-y type flair to his videos. They are highly produced and simply gorgeous. This video series, previewed on Steve's Channel and shown in its entirety on the STA Travel Channel, is a fun look at Steve and his fiance, Alexia's trip around California. I love California and road trips, so loving this is a given.

4. Scrotal Recall (NETFLIX). I did not want to watch this show because, well, the name. It. Is. The. Worst. But the show, it's actually quite good. It's all about a mid-to-late 20s guy who gets an STD and has to tell his previous partners that they need to get checked. The story, though, isn't what makes it good. It's the characters and their connection and that it's just sweet and funny. The core characters have good interplay, but the smaller characters are lovely too. I heartily recommend it! Look past the name. And there are some other people that agree that you should give it a chance.

5. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp (NETFLIX). Haven't you heard that Netflix made an eight episode series, a prequel to the cult-classic Wet Hot American Summer? That movie is a ridiculous, nonsense thing that I enjoyed. The prequel series is just that same. Everyone from the movie is back, 15 years later, to play their couple-month younger selves. And some of these people have had quite and career surge in between. We're talking Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd to name just a small few. (And is Paul Rudd a vampire? HE HAS NOT AGED.)  Watch the series. Watch the movie (also on Netflix). They are stupid funny.

So that's the first Five on Fridays. I hope you enjoyed it and come back next Friday for more.
