September 2014 Playlist
This week we will be focusing on the Summer Round-up! Stay tuned for a photo post tomorrow morning. But first let's say adieu to September with a post about the music I enjoyed this month.
Oh September, you bittersweet month, you! I'm always so conflicted about September. I do love the warmth, sunshine and generally amazingness of summer. September, however, ushers in the crisp Autumn weather and starts the spectacularly colorful sendoff to everything summery. I take comfort in the coziness of the Fall season, but hate, hate, hate (to infinity) the thought that the tragedy that is WINTER is coming soon.
For last few years, September has also meant a return the frenzied craziness of grad at UMich. Having graduated, so much older and wiser (lolz) this past May, this is not the case for me this year. Can I say that I miss it a bit. Ann Arbor will remain in my thoughts fondly for years to come, especially when September comes around.
My September Playlist of the songs I enjoyed this month has moments that echo the changing of the seasons. There's some super summery stuff like "Better Run" by the Royal Bangs and "Ugly Heart" by G.R.L that you can imagine listening to while driving down the street with your windows down and the volume up. And there's also some quieter, more contemplative tracks like "Two Weeks" by FKA twigs and the classic "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas. My absolute favorite tracks are "Happy Idiot" by TV on the Radio because it is haunting and poppy at the same time and "Blame" by Calvin Harris and John Newman because Calvin Harris is always on point and John Newman's voice is magic. Threw Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" into the mix because she really knows how to put together a catchy tune and I really like the message about not giving into the haters. Finally for a bit of nostalgia I've got "Hail to the Victors" which is the fight song for Michigan because why not? There's a few other surprises mixed in there so I hope you have a listen and enjoy!
