February 2015 Music Playlist

I spent a lot of this month Shazaaming must from TV and just listening to a Spotify playlist of all the music from Pretty Little Liars, so that's the origin of a lot this playlist. It's actually kind of interesting that more of those songs from PLL didn't make it onto my own playlist because I really loved the music while it was playing during the show, but they aren't as memorable just played alone. It really goes to show you how visual and audio have such great synergy.

Complete tangent, but this also got me thinking again of the importance of the Music Supervisor to a show. Drama, humor, emotions, the feels all have to be written well and acted superbly, but also complemented with the right music. This can lead to memorable scenes in your favorite show, but also launch the career of an unknown artist. On the music side of thing that is down to the Music Supervisor. That is why when I am asked who are my the three ultimate dinner companions, I also mention Alexandra Patsavas. She was first introduced to me as a Music Supervisor for Carnivale and the OC, and has gone on to fill that role for Grey's Anatomy, Twilight, Gossip Girl, Chuck, Mad Men among others. And if there's one common thread there, it's that they all have simply wonderful soundtracks. So next time you hear some great music on your favorite show, take a gander at IMDB because maybe you should be following the music supervisor...

As for my favorites from my favorites this month, I don't have any. I was browse through all of the songs and song after song was great and all different. Is this my best playlist yet? Quite possibly. I will, however, make a single prediction: "Lonesome Dreams" by Lord Huron, could end up being my song of the summer. I know this is EXTREMELY EARLY for that kind of thing, but I see the potential.
