The Five on Fridays: Week 7

The Five on Fridays: Week 7

1. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. | If you know one thing about me it's, well, that I will watch anything with zombies in it. If you know another things, it's that I'm a Marvel fan through and through. When I heard that Agent Coulson was getting his own series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I was beyond excited because 1) he was dead and that meant he wasn't permanently so; 2) he was a breakout character AND one of my favorites.  I've loved watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  grow, change, and find it's place in the MCU over the past two seasons. I like that it's within the superhero action-adventure genre, but the characters are more developed since they have the time. I like that it isn't just a procedural, monster-of-the-week show; it's got elements of that, but it's much more dynamic and isn't afraid of making big changes and never looking back. I like there's tons of action and pretty good special effects, but plenty of light-hearted banter too. With the first episodes of this season it has really hit it's stride and I'm excited to see where it's going.

2. L'Oreal Eversleek Shampoo and Conditioner | I'm always trying new shampoos and conditioners because I'm pretty fickle about that kind of thing. It's rare that I really like them. Some smell great, but don't moisturize my hair enough, some make my hair super shiny, but dry out the ends, some tame all the frizz and feel great on the first day, but leave my hair feeling oily within 24 hours (which is not great when you are trying to cut down on how often you wash your hair), some just smell weird. Eversleek, though is pretty good. If you have frizzy, kind of damaged hair, this might work for you. It is sulfate-free, which is supposed to be good for your hair, but still lathers and feels like it cleans your hair. It adds some moisture and shine and smooths without being too heavy. It smells ok too. And it's not crazy expensive $7 each.

3. The Great British Bake Off | This show combines two of my favorite things quaint Britishness and baking. The contestants are so nice and charming. The food looks really great. And Mel and Sue the hosts are always adorable and rather funny.  I'm just sad that the format never really worked over here in the United States. The finale premiered this past Wednesday and the whole series will probably make it's way to the US via PBS sometime in the Winter. Who knew chocolate and bread could be so dramatic?

4. Rock Band 4 |  There is no better party game. There is no funnier version of karaoke. There is no easier was to feel like you could be a rockstar if you were to pick up a guitar. I missed you, Rock Band! I'm glad you are back with a 4th edition. I've watched people play Rock Band 4 on the internet and I'm not seeing any crazy innovations. It just seems like a slightly updated version with new songs and lots of DLC songs. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play myself (even though Rock Band was the only video game I played during my non-video gaming past) because my Rock Band instruments are in storage <sad face> and I'm not going to pay the money for new ones because that is silly AND I'M SAVING ALL MY MONEY FOR...

5. 3D Printers | I've been hearing about 3D printers for a while now, but never really thought about using them myself. I've never felt creative in that way and I figured that they were some future tech that was impossibly expensive. The I saw this video from Tested all about a 3D printer based build. As it turns out I'm a bit more creative than I thought and have been learning all about designing and casting resin pieces. As it also turns out, consumer 3D printers are actually relatively inexpensive, meaning that they are in the $500 to $2,000 range. Expensive, but not out of the question with some budgeting. I also discovered this article in lifehacker all about how to get started in the 3D printing world. Is this my new hobby? Stay tuned.

BONUS: I have talked about Geek & Sundry's Twitch Channel enough on this website to last a lifetime, so I didn't want to include their recent charity stream in my favorites (but it really was one of the highlights of my week), but I did want to include a link to donate to the cause they highlighted. G&S teamed up with Nerdist and has raised more than $75k (with another marathon stream coming at the end of the month), Extralife and the Children's Miracle Network. That money is going to help kids who are sick. Who doesn't want that? So donate if you can.

So that’s Friday for you! Back to that Autumn and Halloween fun next week. Until then follow me on social media to be in the know about all my posts. Happy weekend!
