The March 2015 Playlist

The March 2015 Playlist

My playlist started off kind of slow this month because I was pretty much listening to Ninja Sex Party NON-STOP! So I've included a few of their songs on my list. But that simply isn't enough! You must listen to every last one of their funny, stupid, inappropriate, perfect songs. DO IT!

Other than that a couple of weeks into the month I started trolling the new releases and gathering more songs for this list. And I discovered something so bizarre. Several bands that were uber-popular and some of my favorites about 10 years ago were all releasing songs/albums AT THE SAME TIME. Muse, Modest Mouse, Sufjan Stevens, The Go!Team, and Death Cab for Cutie are all back in rotation for me and I hope they will be for you as well. Especially Death Cab (which I have continued to love and listen to in the interim) because "Little Wanderer" is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful songs I have ever heard. The lyrics suggest that Ben Gibbard probably wrote it about his failed marriage to Zooey Deschanel. And if that is indeed the case, it makes me even more sad about their divorce. The song is amazing though. So listen to it.

The rest of the playlist is filled with many great tracks. I wish I could mention them all and describe the joy that they bring me. I will limit it to four because that seems like a good number. Marina and The Diamonds released a new album, Froot, and "Savages" is the single. It's like a much more upbeat Lana Del Ray and I've heard that Marina is a hoot! (Yes, I said a hoot, deal with it.)

Bastille released "Of the Night" a couple of years ago, according to my sources, but it's in the zeitgeist right now for some reason. Not sure where I heard it, but I LOVE IT. It's a mash-up/cover of "Rhythm of Night" and "Rhythm is a Dancer". It brings me back to the 90s, like whoa, and it is so danceable.

My beloved Wombats have a new album and "Greek Tragedy" is a very Wombats song. Indie-electronic-British-rock. Halting and melodic. Perfect to sing-a-long to. I'm looking forward to getting into their album more.

FINALLY and most importantly, Passion Pit has a song out called "Lifted Up (1985)" in which they sing "1985 was a good year..." Why is this important? Oh it is more than important. Vital isn't the right word, but I can't think of the right word. Anyways, in a few short days we will reach April 5. A wonderful day because it is MY BIRTHDAY! MY 30th BIRTHDAY! I WILL HAVE REACHED A NEW DECADE. This incredible journey started way back in 1985. Full circle. BOOM! That is why that song is so great (besides it being great musically and all that).

So that's my rather extended commentary about this past month's playlist. I hope you enjoy it as much a did.
