The Five on Fridays: Week 6

The Five on Fridays: Week 6

1. Hazel Hayes (YouTuber). Hazel Hayes is a delightful and inspiring YouTuber, who shares her life and creative endeavors with us on her channel called Chewing Sand. I started watching Hazel a while ago and connected with her especially because, unlike a lot of YouTubers, she seemed to be around my age, which is refreshing. I like her short films and the Otter Series, but this year, I really feel like I've gotten to know her through her Time of the Month series, which is basically an extended vlog about her adventures, work, thoughts and feelings within a month. She is a cool kick-ass lady who is making a living doing what she loves, film-making. It's not always easy, but she makes me feel inspired to overcome my own issues in pursuing creative endeavors. She is also wonderfully hilarious especially when she is hanging out with Louise Pentland (SprinkleofGlitter) or doing mischief! Watch her most recent video with previous Five on Friday recommendation, Daniel J. Layton, it is too funny.  Keep doing what you do Hazel!

2. Minecraft. Do you remember when I talked about Terraria a couple of weeks ago and I mentioned that because I loved it I would probably be trying Minecraft soon? Well, I know myself too well because I did. So let me say right off the bat, I have not had the immediate "I LOVE THIS" reaction and constant need to play that I did with Terraria. It's more like I see the grand possibilities of Creative Mode. I want to plan and build amazing things, but I'm not sure I have the time and skill to do that at this point. My big question is, however, what else is there? There are hours and hours of Minecraft videos out there, but where do I, the Minecraft novice, jump in to find out how I become part of the greater Minecraft world. More investigation needed! My favorite thing!

3. iOS 9. I finally updated my iPhone and all I have to say is, UPPERCASE vs. lowercase keyboard, a small change that makes me so happy.

4. The Super Blood Moon. I'm sure everyone has heard about Sunday's Super Blood Moon (Giant Full Moon Fully Eclipsed) already, but it was really one of my favorite things from this week. I spent the evening scouting around to see the moonrise and then spent the night in my backyard watching the eclipse. It was a calming, but simultaneously exciting experience. So many people all putting aside time to witness a natural event like that, it's quite something. What will we all be doing the next time we get a Super Blood Moon?

This is the coolest image ever. So many props to Jose Antonio Hervas.

5. Teen Wolf. I guess this just happens to fit in with the Super Blood Moon. Moons, werewolves, get it? Well anyway, Teen Wolf has been my teen drama bingefest throughout the summer and now into Fall. It is just so utterly watchable. The people in it are relatively good actors, the stories are pretty fresh and interesting despite the preponderance of werewolves in pop culture these days, and it is supernatural which always interests me. It's on Amazon Prime and it's worth checking out if you want a fun and funny show to watch here and again.

Thanks for coming back for more Friday Faves. Make sure you keep coming back to Heart Says Hey for more Fall Fun this whole October. Follow me on social media to see when all of that gets posted. Happy Weekend!
